If you are a garden lover, then you can fully enjoy this part of France during your holiday.

Within an hour's drive of our accommodation, there are three historic gardens.

Les jardins d'eau de Carsac in Carsac-Aillac

The water gardens in Carsac were created on an estate dating back to the 16th century. The gardens, with beautiful colours, are famous for the many species of (Chinese) water lilies, lotuses and other aquatic plants. Water plants have been brought to the Dordogne from all over the world.

You can stroll in them while enjoying the beautiful plants. The koi carp in the water may be fed and touched.

You can combine a visit to these gardens with dinner in Sarlat-la-Canéda, one of the most beautiful medieval towns in Europe.

Les jardins d'eau de Carsac in Carsac-Aillac

The water gardens in Carsac, created on a 16th-century estate, are famous for their stunning water lilies, lotuses, and other aquatic plants from around the world. Stroll through the gardens and enjoy the beauty of the plants, and feel free to feed and touch the koi carp.

You can also combine your visit with dinner in Sarlat-la-Canéda, one of Europe's most beautiful medieval towns.

Le jardin du Château des Milandes in Castelnaud-la-Chapelle

A beautiful garden surrounds the Renaissance château Milandes, former stay of Jozefine Baker, an American actress, with stunning views over the Dordogne valley.

The garden was laid out in the 20th century and designed in French style with several terraces, lawns, box hedges and flower beds. You will see water everywhere: waterfalls, basins and statues with fountains.

About 60 birds of prey live at the château in complete harmony with the surrounding nature. Birds of prey shows are held in the château's garden in summer.

There is also a cosy brasserie at the château.

Jardins de Marqueyssac in Vézac

Vézac is home to Château Marqueyssac, an estate on which a boxwood garden with 150,000 box trees and 6km of footpaths was laid out on 22 hectares in the 19th century. The park has a teahouse, a souvenir shop and peacocks roam freely.

From the Belvedere, a balcony at an altitude of 130m, you have stunning views over the Dordogne River and the valley.

In the north wing of the château in a restaurant - tea room and in the gardens themselves in a sandwich shop with fresh sandwiches and sweet treats. In the summer months, the gardens are lit with candles on Thursday evenings.
